Superintendent of Police Bikash Raj Khanal on Tuesday said Mangal Singh Nyasur, his wife and their four daughters were still missing. Only the body of Nyasur’s seven-year-old child Palma has been found so far. Locals suspect that the landslide may have swept the six family members into the Bagmati river.
Security personnel and local people involved in search have already sifted through the debris and found nothing, said Ram Bahadur Gole, a local man. There is a high chance the bodies were carried away into Bagmati as the Nyasur family had a house on a slope overlooking the river, he added.
Two surviving daughters of Mangal Singh performed a symbolic funeral rituals for their missing family members on Tuesday, with no hope of finding them alive.
Meanwhile, police recovered a body on the bank Bagmati river in Rautahat on Tuesday. The identity of the body was not established until late afternoon.
