NRA starts resurvey of quake-hit private houses
Engineers deputed by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) have started resurvey of quake-damaged private homes in 14 districts worst affected by the disaster in 2015.Engineers deputed by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) have started resurvey of quake-damaged private homes in 14 districts worst affected by the disaster in 2015.
The move is aimed to address complaints filed by quake survivors over segregation of beneficiaries based on criteria set by the authority.
A total of 332 engineers, who were trained in three different phase in Kathmandu, have undertaken the task in designated district from Friday, according to the NRA.
They will be looking after 128,000 complaints. Those households, whose plaints have already been addressed, will not be resurveyed. Of the 207,861 complaints registered with the authority, 39,097 have been already addressed.
The outcome of resurvey carried out by the engineers will be uploaded directly to the central server.
The resurvey process is expected to be completed by September 16. “We urge the households that have lodged complaints to participate in the process and complete the formalities to be eligible for the government grant,” the NRA said in a statement.
For those who have not filed a complaint yet, the NRA has made a new arrangement wherein quake survivors can lodge complaints at their respective wards.
Such complaints from households, if found genuine by the Ward Complaint Management Committee, will be resurveyed by the NRA engineers, according to the authority.
The NRA has placed resurvey of houses in Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok and Dolkha on top of the priority list, pushing those in Rasuwa, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur down the pecking order.
It has also appealed to the earthquake impacted households, people in the region, local representatives, political parties and other stakeholders to make the newly launched initiative successful.
The authority said it would come out with the actual number of beneficiaries by mid-October.
