Monsoon claimed 143 lives: MoHA

Floods and landslides claimed 143 lives in different parts of the country over the past few weeks, the Ministry of Home Affairs said. 

The latest death toll from monsoon-related disasters stands at 143 while 30 people are missing, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. 

Likewise, 79,812 houses were destroyed by floods and landslides while 144,444 houses were damaged. 

The ministry has said the relief distribution has been expedited in the affected areas, including Dhading, Rautahat, Parsa, Mahottari, Sunsari and Siraha districts. Tarpaulin sheets, blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, cooking pots and rice were distributed in the disaster-hit areas.

The statement said families who lost their loved ones in recent floods and landslides were also receiving Rs 200,000 each as per the government’s decision.
