Construction of a Bailey bridge over the Bhotekoshi river in Larcha, Sindhupalchok, has halted after a landslide from Pangsherpu hillside struck the site four days earlier.

Engineer Shila Neupane, of the Division Road Office, said all works had to be stopped after the landslide deposited large boulders on the site.

Workers were constructing foundation for the proposed 50-metre Bailey bridge when the landslide struck.  

On July 23, a massive landslide had destroyed the concrete bridge in the area, cutting off the Tatopani area from rest of Sindhupalchok.

People were compelled to cross the Bhotekoshi with an aid of tuin, risking their lives, in the wake of the landslide, until a makeshift bridge was put in place to connect Larcha with Phuplingkatti and Tatopani.

The latest landslide has caused concern among many people that the Bailey bridge will never come to pass, said Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force Bimal Dangi.

Tatopani area has witnessed several landslides after the 2015 earthquake, and the people doubt if thing will ever become normal.

Chief District Officer Antar Bahadur Silwal said the landslide at the Bailey bridge construction site was just a minor setback.

The project will be completed, albeit a bit later than expected, he added.
