Debris to be cleared from Tundikhel ‘in a week’
Aug 22, 2017-The debris from Dharahara and other heritage sites that were damaged by the April 2015 earthquake is set to be removed from Tundikhel, authorities said on Monday.
Debris from the quake-damaged structures was kept on the southern part of Tundikhel. The area is covered with weeds.
“We have already discussed the issue with stakeholders. The area will be cleared by next week in collaboration with the DoA,” said Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya.
According to DoA’s Kunwar, bricks that are in good shape will be reused while reconstructing Dharahara and other monuments.
“There are also bricks with names of Rana prime ministers including Chandra Shumsher, Juddha Shumsher and Bhim Shumsher. They will be preserved,” said Kunwar.
KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said the metropolis is looking for a proper space for disposing of unwanted materials.
