The event, which saw the presence of authors and scholars in the likes of Aananda Dev Bhatta, Rajendra Subedi and Amma Raj Joshi, featured a brief discussion where the speakers talked about the released books.
The first of Khanal’s book, Chittipatra, is an anthology of 101 of author Khanal’s personal correspondences. Speaking about the book, Professor Rajendra Subedi said, “Chitthipatra is a book that you can’t limit to a single genre. Although, it is basically a work of non-fiction, it also employs elements of a work of fiction—with its keenly observed characters and setting. One of the things it does is that it lays
bare the multidimesional character of author Khanal.”
Author Khanal’s second book, Golden Dreams and the Narrow Lane, is a work of translation. The book includes the English translation of 25 of well-known Nepali short stories. “The stories anthologised in the book are all works of social realism and can be taken as testament to the authors’ embracing of the Marxist ideology,” said Professor Amma Raj Joshi.
“Given that the TU has included Nepali literature in its MA (English) and Mphil courses, reference materials like this will be helpful to students.”
