The event entailed a discussion on how to tranform the lifestyle of city denizens by using digital technologies. First leg of the seminar was organised in Kavra village of Syangja.
Digital mapping is a process by which a collection of data is compiled and formatted into a virtual image. The primary function of this technology is to produce maps that give accurate representations of a particular area, detailing major road arteries and other points of interest.
Dream City, one of the handful Nepali digital mapping initiatives, has been working towards helping communities to map their business points since 2012, informed Saurav Dhakal, the moderator for the event. “Gradually we will start working on map-based storytelling where we can place stories at different map points. We also work in
the Everest region with Google Earth outreach. And since the latest local elections we have come to realise that these mapping and story-telling approaches can actually facilitate the planning and designing of the city,” Dhakal said.
