Fix roads before polls: EC to govt

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Aug 24, 2017-The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday called on the government to repair the polling centres and the road leading to the polling centres damaged by recent floods for the third phase of local elections scheduled on September 18.

“The damaged infrastructure should be repaired immediately for a smooth running of voters’ education programme, to deliver election materials,” the EC said in a statement.

During a meeting with Acting Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on Wednesday, EC officials, including Chief Election Commissioners Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and Commissioner Ishwori Prasad Paudel, asked the government to accelerate the repair and maintenance works.

The EC office bearers demanded that the government enact laws related to provincial and federal elections at the earliest for holding those polls. The government has fixed November 26 as the election date for these two elections. The poll body also sought a report of the Constituency Delimitation Commission at the earliest. (PR)
