Landslide damages two houses in Melamchi
Aug 24, 2017-
A landslide triggered by incessant rains damaged two houses at Melamchi Bazaar in Sindhupalchok district on early Wednesday morning. A parked van and a motorcycle were also buried in the incident.“Some houses in the area are at high risk after the landslide. Their occupants are looking for a safer place where they can relocate because the landslide has not stopped,” said Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, a local.
Security personnel from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were mobilised to clear the debris and salvage the victims’ belongings. “The land just above the Bazaar has caved in. It poses danger to the entire settlement,” said Police Inspector Nabaraj Dhungana.
The landslide has also obstructed traffic movement to Helambu and Kiul, affecting hundreds of people.
