Three boys drown in Manahari stream
Three boys, aged 10 to 12, were swept away by rain-swollen Manahari stream in Makwanpur district on Thursday. Alesh Rumba, 10, Aman Thing, 11, and Prakash Rumba, 12, of Manahari Rural Municipality-7 died in the incident, police said. The locals rescued Buddha Moktan, 15, and took him to Bharatpur for treatment.
The tragic accident happened while a group of nine boys went to the rain-fed river for swimming. Four of the boys were swept away by the current. According to local journalist Shiva Kumar Kashi, three boys drowned as they were stuck in a hume pipe that was swept away by the recent flood in the stream.
Alesh and Aman were the second graders at Marigold School, while Prakash was studying in class five in Rotary Secondary School.
“Four of our friends were swept away while swimming in the stream. We attempted to rescue them but could not,” said 15-year-old Niraj Lama, who accompanied the victims.
The local people rushed to the incident site after the boys yelled for help. They pulled out the victims but the boys were already dead. The bodies were taken to Hetauda Hospital for postmortem.
