RJP-N activists hurl stones at UML event
Aug 30, 2017-
Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) activists attempted to foil the CPN-UML’s election rally in Janakpur on Tuesday.
The RJP-N supporters hurled stones at the programme venue in Janaki Batika, where UML leaders, including Madhav Kumar Nepal and Gokarna Bista were in attendance.
A huge number of security personnel were deployed in the area to prevent clashes between the supporters of two parties.
There were sporadic incidents of clashes between the RJP-N activists and security personnel during the UML rally.
The RJP-N said some of its activists sustained injuries as police reportedly used excessive force to suppress their peaceful protest. RJP-N leader Lalkishwor Sah said the UML, who voted against the constitution amendment bill, did not have the right to organise any programme in Madhes on moral grounds.
Addressing the event, Nepal claimed that the UML was in favour of Madhes and Madhesi people.
He also said that the amendment proposal, which was recently rejected by Parliament, was not in favour of Madhes.
The amendment proposal was registered at the behest of “unknown power centre”, he added.
Nepal also claimed that the UML will be the largest party after the third phase of local level elections.
