The event will be participated in by 14 teams from 15 institutions that have been giving shelter to street children or orphans. The three-day U-17 tournament will serve as players’ selection for the upcoming Street Child World Cup to be held in Moscow, Russia from May 19-27.
According to the organisers, nine best players will be picked up from the tournament for the seven-a-side World Cup which will be played for 40 minutes. Due to the unavailability of grounds, National Street Child Football League will have 30-minute a side league games and 40-minute knockout matches.
All Nepal Football Association is providing technical and managerial assistance to the tournament. While the league matches will be held at the Anfa Complex in Satdobato, the semi-finals and final will be played at the Dashrath Stadium.
The participating teams are divided into four groups with only the pool winners making it to the semi-finals. The participating teams include Khusi Nepal, Shelter Ashraya Nepal, Light House Foundation Nepal, a joint team of OCCED Nepal and Prayaas Nepal along with Sober Recovery Treatment and Rehabilitation centre.
Other teams are Orphan and Helpless Children Dev Society, Shangri-La Orpha-nage Home, Nepal Children Organisation, New Children Home, Nepal Child-ren Home 2, 3 Angels Nepal, Voice of Children, Hope Rising Children Home and Ganesh Himal Child Help Centre.
