The exhibited works are dedicated to the urban refugees in Nepal.
Dangol, a Kathmandu-based artist, mostly works in line with community-based endeavours. One of the 17 Nepali artists commisioned for a new artwork at the recently-concluded Kathmandu Triennale, Dangol has, of late, been working with urban refugees living in Kathmandu; the artworks on display at Displaced are based on the artist’s experience and encounters.
“The series of drawings were created from observations made over months of interacting with urban refugees of Kathmandu. Referencing real images of refuge, the drawings use local patterns, landscapes, cityscape with dramatic twists to share their stories,” the organisers said.
“In some, the recent earthquake has been depicted to draw a temporal parallel between those who lost their homes in the disaster and the displaced refugee communities.”
Each work is priced Rs 12,000 and the drawings are pen on paper. Proceeds from the event, organisers informed, will benefit a long-term project between the artist, associated partners, and the Rohingya refugees of the Valley.
Displaced will run till September 12, every day from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm.
