Villagers said the women died as they were not taken to hospital on time. Pratimal Budha, chairman of Bangad-2, said a majority of people in the ward are suffering
from fever.
As there is a shortage of medicines in health posts, people are facing hardships. Man Bahadur Basnet, a local of Bame-6, said health posts do not even have paracetamol.
“Patients are compelled to buy medicines from private medical shops,” he said. Villagers have been terrorised by the news of the deaths.
Scrub typhus kills woman
A woman died of scrub typhus in Chitwan last week. With this, the death toll from the disease in the district has reached two in the one-and-a-half months. Scrub typhus is a bacterial disease caused by intracellular parasite, Orientia tsutsugamushi.
The woman from Nawalparasi was admitted to the Bharatpur-based Central Hospital on July 24 where she breathed her last on August 26, said Ram Kumar KC, an official at the District Public Health Office. She was taken to the health facility after suffering from high fever.
At least 133 cases of scrub typhus have been reported in Chitwan since mid-July.
The symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, headache and measles-like rashes in the neck region.
The disease is transmitted to humans through some species of mites which could affect patients’ lungs and brains if not treated properly.
