10 dead, 55 injured in two road accidents

At least 10 people died and 55 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Nuwakot and Chitwan districts on Saturday. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
Seven people were killed when a passenger bus swerved off the road and plunged some 350 below at Gurje along the Tokha-Chhahare road section in Nuwakot. Thirty-one passengers were injured in the incident. The injured were taken to various hospitals in Kathmandu for treatment.
The Nuwakot-bound bus (Ba 1 Kha 6348) skidded off the road from a bend in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-7 and fell on a house belonging to Anil Tamang. Tamang’s wife Sita was injured in the incident. Anil and his two children, however, escaped the incident as they fled the house on time. The house was severely damaged in the incident.
According to the District Police Office in Nuwakot, the bus driver fled the scene, while his assistant sustained serious injuries in the incident. The cause of the crash is not immediately known, said police.
The security personnel of Nepal Army and Nepal Police as well as the locals immediately reached the crash site and rescued the victims.
In another fatal accident, two passenger buses collided head-on at Piple along the Eastwest Highway in Rapti Municipality-1 on Saturday, killing three persons. Twenty-four others were injured, five critically, in the accident.
The Birgunj-bound bus (Na 5 Kha 8706) collided with another bus (Na 6 Kha 9125) en route to Narayanghat. “The investigation is under way. Over speeding is suspected to be the main cause of the accident,” said DSP Shiva Sharma Acharya.
