Voters being lured with cash: Dahal
CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has alleged that some “old” and Madhes-based parties were influencing voters with cash for the upcoming phase of local level elections scheduled for September 18.CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has alleged that some “old” and Madhes-based parties were influencing voters with cash for the upcoming phase of local level elections scheduled for September 18.
Talking to journalists in Sindhuligadhi on Monday, Dahal said he had got information that some parties were distributing money, meat and alcohol in several Tarai districts to buy votes. He said he had asked some Maoist Centre candidates not to indulge in costly campaigns.
The Maoist chief, who has been in the plains canvassing for votes for two weeks, claimed that the Maoist Centre would emerge as the largest force in Province 2 from next week’s vote.
He said voters might get swayed by candidates employing all possible means to win the election.
“I found that there is a trend of capturing booths near the Nepal-India border every election,” said Dahal, adding that he had instructed the home minister not to let that happen.
People in the eight Tarai districts are enthusiastic about the vote, Dahal said.
