At the event, Koyu recited five of her poems, two of which have been translated into English and featured in the feminist journal Zubaan, and literary magazine La.Lit.
“The event is part of a quest to enhance our cross-cultural outreach. After the success of last fortnight’s poetic debate, we are delighted to host Pranika as the first of our invited, solo performers,” the organisers said.
Pranika is a member of Chaukath, a voluntary network of young feminists in Nepal, and has been consciously using poetry as a tool for activism since 2012. Her poems mainly stem from an articulation of the frustrations women endure in striving to overcome the challenges of Nepal’s socio-political landscape.
Open Mic, an open platform for artists and performers, takes place every other Tuesday at the premises of NexUs Café in Lalitpur.
The Open Mic, hosted by Australian poet, performer and community development practitioner Brent Downes, has served as a platform for musical performances and stand-up comedy.
