Shrestha sets new national records

In the women’s 63kg junior category, Shrestha snatched 62kg and lifted 81kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 143kg to set a new national record. She broke the previous mark of Sonam Chaudhary set during the Lumbini Championship four years ago. Chaudhary had the records of 35kg in snatch, 53kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 88kg. Another Army lifter Manita Shrestha finished second with 61kg in snatch, 80kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 141kg.
Shanti Chaudhary of Saptari won the 63kg weight division in the senior event by lifting 55kg in snatch, 68kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 123kg. Army lifter Usha Khadka finished second with a total lift of 122kg—55kg in snatch and 67kg in clean & jerk.
Sanju Chaudhary of Banke improved on her own clean & jerk record in the women’s 53kg division in senior category. On Wednesday, Chaudhary lifted 81kg to break her previous record of 80kg set during the Asian Youth and Junior Weighlifting Championships in Nepal one month ago. Chaudhary took gold with a total lift of 138kg having lifted 57kg in snatch. Sumi Bhattarai of Jhapa finished second with 22kg in snatch and 27kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 49kg.
In 53kg junior category, Kabita Chaudhary of Banke lifted 35kg in snatch, 51kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 86kg to claim gold medal. Santoshi Yadav of Saptari and Rabina Basnet of Paras took silver and bronze respectively. Karina Chaudhary of Jhapa and Rita Kumar Gurung of TAC respectively won the women’s 48kg junior and senior category gold medals.
Tika Maya Gurung of Kaski had 50kg in snatch, 64kg in clean & jerk compiling 114kg in total to win the 58kg junior gold. She got the better of Kajal Yadav of Saptari. Manisha Ranabhat of TAC took the senior category gold with a total lift of 113kg. Priyanka Shah Thakuri (junior 69kg) of Life Physical Fitness, Man Kumari Rimal (senior 75kg) and Asmita Rai (senior 90kg) of TAC were other winners of the day.
In the men’s 56kg junior category, Ram Kumar Yadav of Saptari lifted a total of 160kg to claim gold ahead of Tushar BM of Banke (132kg) and Lal Babu Yadav (130kg) of Saptari took silver and bronze. In the senior event of the same weight category, Manoj Yadav of Saptari bagged gold with 175kg. He beat Tula Ram Mahato (165kg) of TAC and Santosh Thapaliya (147kg).
