The producers of the film, set to be directed by Arpan Thapa, released the first look of the film at a press meet in Sydney, Australia on Monday.
“Horror films have not been properly explored in Nepal, one can only think of a handful of films based on the horror genre. We were driven by a single motive to experiment and to provide Nepali audiences with a taste of a well-produced horror flick,” said Thapa, speaking at the event. “Exploring new genres also helps the movie industry grow. We hope that with the film, we will be able to contribute to that to some extent.”
Sunkesari will be filmed under the banner of Reecha Sharma Productions.
The film, the producers said, will be made under the budget of Rs 20 million, and will be shot mostly in locations around Australia.
“Even though the cost of production obviously goes up, the story demanded it be shot in Australia. We wanted to leave no stone unturned,” said Reecha Sharma, one of the producers, who also stars in the film.
Sunkesari tells the story of an Australian palace constructed around 1880 AD and how it is converted into a boutique hotel, and the strange tale of the supernatural beings that live among the hotel’s corridors.
Along with Sharma, the film will feature actors Rabindra Jha, Sunny Dhakal, and Bhim Neupane, among others. Sunkesari will hit theatres sometime in mid 2018.
Another horror movie, Kichkandi, which was raising funds via online crowdfunding sites, is also currently under production.
