Election system should be changed: Dahal
Sep 23, 2017-
CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called for a change in the electoral system, terming it “expensive”.
Talking to journalists in Hetauda on Friday, Dahal, also a former prime minister, said people of moderate resources cannot contest the elections as the candidates had been spending lavishly during campaigns.
“Only the rich and smugglers can participate in the elections. So the system must be changed,” said Dahal.
Dahal also batted for fully proportional election system and directly elected executive head. He also blamed the party’s unsatisfactory results during the first two phases of local level elections on numerous splits in the Maoist party in the past. “The Maoist Centre will emerge as the third strongest party from the upcoming elections,” he claimed.
