Pokhara
Nine students were arrested on Saturday in Pokhara for showing black flags to Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Gopalman Shrestha as they protested against the ninth amendment to the Education Act-1972. Parliament on Tuesday endorsed the Education Act (Ninth Amendment) Bill, paving the way for temporary teachers to get permanent status. Experts have objected to the revision, saying that it will push the country’s public education sector 25 years behind. (PR)
