The request from the national human rights watchdog comes at a time when the parties are busy giving final shape to their election manifesto. Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the commission has asked the parties to make commitments to respect, protest and promote the human rights as envisioned in the statute and different human rights convention of which the Nepal government is a signatory.
In the statement issued by Commission’s Spokesperson Mohna Ansari it has reminded the parties that they bear the responsibility and authority to implement the provision of democracy, individual freedom, fundamental rights, human rights and adult franchise envisioned in the constitution.
Stating that the country will be stronger only if the economic, social, cultural and political rights of the citizen are ensured as per the provision of the statute, the Commission has asked the parties to incorporate the issues in their manifestos. Manifestos guide the work of the parties in the future.
