PR candidate lists in
Oct 30, 2017-
Political parties on Sunday submitted the revised final closed lists of their candidates for the proportional representation category of vote to the Election Commission.
The parties had registered their first lists on October 15. The listed candidates, however, have time to withdraw their nomination while the parties will be able to fill the gap with new candidates. The EC had set Sunday as the deadline to submit the revised lists.
According to Surya Prasad Aryal, information officer at the commission, as many as 49 parties have submitted their closed lists. Though 88 parties are contesting the polls, those submitting the PR lists number much lower as the parties need to secure at least three percent vote to claim seats in the federal parliament. The parties getting less than 1.5 percent PR votes will not be represented in provincial assemblies.
In the federal parliament, 110 lawmakers will be elected in the PR category. Parties are required to field 50 percent women for proportional seats.
The law provisions 13.8 percent candidates from the Dalit community, 28.7 percent from indigenous nationalities, 31.2 percent from among the Khas/Aryas, 15.3 percent from the Madhesis, 6.6 percent from among the Tharus and 4.4 percent from the Muslim community.
