Vietnam seafood export surges in 10 months

Vietnam’s seafood export turnovers in the first 10 months of this year rose 18.7 percent on-year to roughly $6.8 billion, mainly to the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea and China, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Vietnam produced 5.8 million tonnes of seafood, seeing a year-on-year rise of 4.5 percent, its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said, noting that of the output, nearly 2.8 million tonnes came from fishing, up 4.9 percent, and over 3 million tonnes from aquaculture, up 4.3 percent. Vietnam reaped seafood export turnovers of nearly $7.1 billion last year, with 44 percent coming from shrimps and prawns, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
