KMC plans green islands in city

The metropolis will build such islands as part of its city beautification project, officials said.
According to Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of the Environment Division at the KMC, the five new green islands will be built in Sundhara, New Road, Ratnapark and Tankeshwor.
“The designs are ready so they will be built in about two weeks,” said Shrestha. “We will start work from Sunday.” The metropolis is spending around one million rupees for the project.
The metropolis had earlier built such green islands in Jamal, Ratnapark and Sundhara, but they were destroyed as part of the pipeline laying work for the Melamchi water project by the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited.
