Several NC district chapters have already entered into alliance with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Madhes-based political parties, said an NC leader, adding that the party had also decided to solicit support from reputed local figures who can influence the voters.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba met RPP General Secretary and Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitian City Dhawal Shumsher Rana and discussed about the poll-related matters. During the meeting, PM Deuba said that the NC-RPP alliance should continue in the coming days as well to safeguard democracy and sought his support for the NC candidates in Banke district. The NC side claimed the meeting between the two concluded on a positive note, with Rana assuring Deuba of all possible support for the NC candidates there.
On Wednesday, the NC and other parties in the democratic alliance forged an agreement to support each other in Dang district. Under the deal, the RPP-N and the RPP- Prajatantrik will support the NC candidates for the elections to the federal and provincial assemblies. The NC leadership has also instructed party’s other district chapters to build alliances with the like-minded political forces to secure better results in the polls.
“As per our strategy in the centre, we are implementing the decisions at the local level to ensure party’s victory in the upcoming polls, said Bal Krishna Khand, the coordinator of NC’s central elections mobilisation committee.
“Apart from party leaders and cadres, support would be sought from sister organisations and well wishers,” he added.
The party is working on extending similar alliances in other areas, including the Tarai and has instructed the district chapters to court more influential people from diverse backgrounds to expand its vote base.
