188 types of poll signs on ballots

As many as 188 types of election symbols will feature in the ballot papers to be used for the House of Representatives and provincial elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7.
Of them, 138 types of symbols will appear on the ballot papers for the first-past-the-post and the proportional representation categories in the federal elections while 50 symbols have been printed on the ballot papers meant for Provincial Assembly elections, said Dhama Chandra Timalsena, section officer at the Law Section of the Election Commission.
In the election to the House of Representatives, 90 types of symbols have been allocated to the political parties, 48 types to independent candidates and 50 symbols to independent candidates standing for the state assembly polls.
Ninety political parties registered with the poll body have been given the same symbol for both the elections while the EC has allocated separate symbols to the independents.
The symbols will feature on four different ballot papers to be used in the twin polls. The EC has printed separate ballot papers with differing symbols for each province.
