As part of its corporate social responsibility, Tara Air with the help of Lukla-based Himalayan Club and the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) airlifted 11 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste from the Everest region. The airline said it operated nine flights from Lukla airport to airlift waste. The waste has been handed over to the Kathmandu Municipality Corporation, who will distribute it to the proper recycling centres.

The airline said that it has been actively supporting the “waste management campaign” in the Solukhumbu region. “In 2016, we successfully airlifted 12 tonnes of waste from the Solukhumbu region. We will continue this social initiative in the future to keep the Everest region clean,” the airline said.

Tara Air has been providing service in the remote sectors of Nepal since 1998. 

“We are confident that this campaign has helped in creating environmental awareness among the youth, local entrepreneurs, and tourists who visit the Himalayan region. We hope that other private enterprises will also extend their hand in supporting such environmental campaigns in the future,” the airline added.
