Nov 22, 2017-

The United Kingdom has condemned the recent incidents of election-related violence in Nepal. Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the British Embassy in Kathmandu said: “The United Kingdom calls on all stakeholders to ensure the House of Representatives and state assembly elections on November 26 and December 7 are held in a peaceful, inclusive and broadly supported manner.”

Urging all groups to respect the right to freedom of peaceful expression and assembly, the right to vote, as well as to participate and stand for election, in line with Nepal’s constitution and international human rights conventions, the embassy said: “We call on the security forces to comply with existing national and international standards when carrying out their duties.”

“The UK stands with the people of Nepal at this important moment and

reiterates its commitment to working with all stakeholders for peaceful, inclusive and broadly supported elections,” the embassy added. (PR)
