Rautahat on high alert

Dec 4, 2017-

A tight security arrangement has been put in place along the Nepal-India border area in Rautahat district ahead of the Thursday’s elections.

Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel stationed at Gaur customs have heightened the surveillance of vehicles as well as individuals crossing the border.

Around 4,000 vehicles and nearly 6,000 people enter and exit the Gaur border daily.

Superintendent of Police Yagya Binod Pokhrel said the border security has been heightened in view of the elections.

The border security personnel have been instructed to be thorough while inspecting vehicles and personal luggages for suspicious articles, he added.

Authorities have identified Rautahat as a highly security-sensitive district. The recent incidents of attacks on election rallies and candidates in different parts of the country have prompted the security agencies in Rautahat to be more vigilant.

SP Pokhrel said one of their chief concerns was to ensure that no firearms or explosives were smuggled through the border.
