Incidents of blast continued unabated also on Tuesday, with reports of explosions coming in from Dhanusha, Kapilvastu and Kailali.
An unidentified group detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a polling centre in Chhireshwor Municipality in Dhanusha district on Tuesday evening. It went off on the premises of Chhireshwor Janata Higher Secondary School. Two polling centres have been set up in the community school for Thursday’s elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies.
The blast caused a minor damage to the compound wall of the school, but there were no casualties, police said.
In Kanchanpur, an IED was detonated near the house of Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Ramesh Lekhak at Bedkot Municipality-8 on Monday night. The explosive went off on the courtyard the house. “The IED went off soon after we entered the house after concluding an election publicity programme. It exploded with a huge bang but there was no damage,” said Lekhak’s brother Bharat.
Search is on to nab the assailants involved in the incident, said police.
Indian security personnel seized 15 detonators and 125 grams of gun powder while the items were being smuggled into Kanchanpur from India.
NC leader Lekhak is contesting for the federal parliament from Kanchanpur-3.
In Kapilvastu, an IED went off at the house of NC local leader Dunika Prasad Bhusal at Banganga Municipality on Monday night. A vehicle parked on the premises of the house was damaged in the blast, said police. Another IED was recovered from Bhusal’s residence on Tuesday morning.
