Sharma FETED with Gender Equality Award

Election Commissioner Ila Sharma has been honoured with the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS)-2016 award in “gender equality” category.

The award was announced at a ceremony on Wednesday in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique at a programme hosted by the National Electoral Commission of Mozambique, according to the ICPS. 

Sharma has been awarded in “gender equality” category for her contribution towards equal participation rights for women and men to guarantee the proportionality and representativeness of elections, said the ICPS.  

The runners-up in the category were National Democratic Institute, Nigeria and the Peruvian National Electoral Committee. 

 Each year, the ICPS announces International Electoral Awards in 12 categories. The candidates are nominated by members of the Electoral Stakeholders Network, with the awardees then selected by the International Electoral Award Committee.  

The ICPS aims to promote effective policymaking and good governance through enhanced interaction between parliaments, governments and other stakeholders in society.
