Three injured as left alliance, SSF-N supporters clash
Dec 7, 2017-
At least three persons were injured when activists of the left alliance and Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal (SSF-N) clashed in Gaushala of Mahottari on Tuesday night.
One of the victims sustained serious injuries in the clash, said police.
Pramod Mahato, an activist of the left alliance of the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre), was critically injured in the incident. Pramod, who sustained serious head injuries, was immediately rushed to Janakpur Zonal Hospital for treatment. Family sources said preparations are underway to take him to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Manoj Singh and Bipin Singh, both left alliance supporters, returned home after receiving treatment at Primary Health Centre in Gaushala.
According to locals who saw the scuffle, cadres of both the groups clashed for about 30 minutes at around midnight. The left alliance claimed that the clash ensued after SSF-N activists wielding sharp weapons surrounded its supporters. The left alliance said Laxmi Mahato, SSF-N’s candidate for the House of Representatives from Mahottari-1, himself was leading the group that attacked its supports.
Shivanath Mahato, the mayor of Gaushala Municipality, said SSF-N activists even misbehaved with him when he reached the incident site to resolve the dispute. They would have attacked me as well had security personnel not reached there on time,” said Shivanath.
Laxmi Mahato, however, denied that there was any wrongdoing. He claimed that the SSF-N activists had just retaliated in self-defence when left alliance members attempt to attack him with a knife.
Situation came under control soon after security personnel reached the incident site, said Inspector Bhola Bhatta. No arrests were made.
Similarly in Achham, the Bajuda area in Kamal Bazaar Municipality-3 remained tense for hours after supporters of the Nepali Congress (NC) and the left alliance clashed on Tuesday night. The rival groups had a heated dispute after the left alliance supporters torched a motorcycle belonging to an NC supporter.
