Issuing a statement after his poll defeat on Saturday, Koirala thanked voters and expressed his commitment to addressing the national and internationl issues that he raised while campaigning for the federal parliamentary election. “I will always be with you [people] for the country’s prosperity and to institutionalise democracy,” said Koirala.
Stressing the need for election to take the peace process to a logical end and to strengthen democracy, Koirala said the poll outcome should be taken with ease. “Winning or losing an election is just a technical issue.”
Koirala ran for the Morang-6 federal parliamentary seat. CPN-UML candidate Lal Babu Pandit defeated him by 675 votes. Pandit secured 33,941 votes against Koirala’s 33,266. After formal announcement of the result, the NC candidate congratulated Pandit on his victory.
