The newly-elected representatives of federal parliament and provincial assembly in Solukhumbu district have reached out to the local people of Tingla who boycotted all three levels of elections--local, federal parliamentary and provincial assembly polls.

During an interaction programme on Sunday, representative for the federal parliament Hem Kumar Rai and provincial assembly lawmakers Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari and Uttam Kumar Basnet assured the Tingla folks that they would address their demand.

Local people of Tingla in Necha Salyan Rural Municipality-6 boycotted the elections in protest of the Local Level Restructuring Commissi- on’s decision to incorporate the village, formerly Tingla VDC, in Necha Salyan. They have been demanding that the village be incorporated into Dudhkunda Municipality instead.

Tingla is without ward representatives as they had boycotted the local polls. They also stayed away from voting in the federal and provincial elections, stating that the protest would continue until their one-point demand was addressed.

During the interaction at Ramite Bazaar in Tingla, the elected representatives said that they would demand the new government to solve the problem of Tingla with due priority. “We respect the sentiments of Tingla natives. We will take initiatives to solve problem of the locals in Tingla and provide them justice,” said Rai, speaking at the function attended by a huge number of villagers.

There are 995 families in Tingla with 2,476 people eligible to vote. The village is considered as a Nepali Congress stronghold. As the locals boycotted the elections on November 26 all three candidates of the left alliance of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) emerged victorious.
