Club Deja Vu vandalised after DJ no show
Dec 15, 2017-What was billed to be one of the biggest musical nights of the year in Kathmandu descended into chaos, when fans vandalised the premises of Club Deja Vu in Durbarmarg after international DJ and music producer Marshmello failed to make it to his highly-anticipated set in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
According to reports, DJ Marshmello was billed to start playing at 1 am on Thursday morning but could not make it to the venue due to ill health.
When the organisers, 61Live, announced that the DJ would not be able to make it at 2:15 am, some members of the sold-out crowd began hurling projectiles onto the stage and the dance floor. By morning, videos of what eventually became a chaotic night—with beer cans, tables, fans, and, even electronics being thrown onto the stage—began circulating on social media.
According to Mayenk Khadka, one of the proprietors of Club Deja Vu, while no serious injuries were sustained, the club premises bore the brunt of the ire, with damages “estimated at about Rs 10 million.”
Following the incident, Marshmello posted on Twitter: “Nepal. I’m so sorry for not
being able to appear for my performance last night at Deja Vu ktm. I was sick with an awful fever, & although I tried to come, the doctor ordered against it. Health first. I love you Nepal Mellogang, thank you for understanding & hope to see you soon.”
