The members of Nepali UN peacekeeping contingent deployed at Rumbek in Western Lakes state of South Sudan has been awarded with the UN peacekeeping medals in recognition of their outstanding work in South Sudan.
The medals were awarded by the UNMISS Force Commander Lt Gen Frank Mushyo Kamanzi and other senior UNMISS officials, according to a statement.
On behalf of the UN Secretary-General, the Force Commander thanked the government of Nepal for its important contribution and sustained commitment to UN peacekeeping operations around the world.
Since 1958, Nepal has contributed 119,000 peacekeepers to 42 peacekeeping missions. Currently, 4665 peacekeepers are serving in 14 different missions around the world. (PR)
