Thapa, Shakya advance into squash semi-finals

Thapa ousted Umeed Shakya of Central Region 11-3, 11-7, 11-1 and Shakya dispatched Padam Bahadur Thapa of Western Region 11-9, 11-8, 13-11. Central Region’s duo Arhant Keshar Simha and Chhiri Lama also joined Thapa and Shakya in last four. Simha saw off Dipak Thapa of Nepal Police Club 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 and Lama enjoyed walkover from Sudip Bahadur Singh of Central Region. In the semi-finals, Thapa will meet Shakya and Simha will vie against Lama.
The women’s singles saw Krishna Thapa of Western Region and Central Region’s trio of Bhawana Sunuwar, Bipana Blon and Swasthani Shrestha advance into semi-finals. Thapa registered a 11-4, 11-5, 11-0 win over Sapana Blon of Central Region and Sunwar crushed Muskan Raut of Eastern Region 11-1, 11-2, 11-3. Blon dumped out Srimaya Lama of Central Region 11-3, 11-2, 11-7 and Shrestha beat Manjila Ale Magar of Central Region 11-7, 11-8, 11-9.
Army, Eastern enter last four
Tribhuvan Army Club and Eastern Region entered the men’s semi-finals of third National Sepak Takraw in Kathmandu on Thursday. Army finished ahead of Eastern on the basis of better points in Group ‘A’. Army beat Western Region 2-0 before lost by the games margin against Eastern. Eastern lost 2-1 against Western Region. Mid-Western and Central Region made it to semi-finals from Group ‘B’. Mid-Western beat Far Western 2-0 and Central Region 2-1. Central Region earned 2-0 win over Far-Western. In the women’s category Central, Western and Far-Western Regions advanced to the semi-finals.
Double delight for APF
Both the men’s and women’s team of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club advanced tot the semi-finals of the National Volleyball Tournament in Pokhara on Wednesday. Both the APF teams will meet hosts Western Region in the semi-finals. In the men’s category APF edged past Nepal Police Club (NPC) 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 while the women’s team thumped same departmental rivals 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.
Army and Police teams also joined APF and Western Region in the men’s semi-finals. Army beat Western Region 25-21, 29-27, 25-20. Eastern defeated Central 25-20, 25-3, 27-17 and Far-Western saw off Mid-Western 29-27, 25-18, 25-15. Despite the defeat to APF, Police also made to women’s semi-finals along with Central Region after defeating Western 25-9, 25-14, 25-15. Army beat Eastern 25-12, 25-13, 25-10.
