6 parties to resend proportional lists
Jan 2, 2018-
The Election Commission has decided to ask six political parties to correct their lists of candidates chosen for the Proportional Representation category of provincial assembly elections for failing to meet the legal requirements.
According to the EC, the Nepali Congress, the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal, the Rastriya Janamorcha, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manch have failed to honour provisions of the Directive on PR Elections to Provincial Assemblies while picking candidates from their closed lists.
The parties had submitted the lists of candidates to be elected to the state assemblies by December 29. On December 22, the EC announced the PR election results for the state assemblies.
According to EC Spokesman Dinesh Ghimire, the six parties will be notified on Tuesday to submit the revised lists within three days.
According to Clause 34 (3) of the Directives on PR Elections to Provincial Assemblies, a party cannot choose candidates from the same community from the lower order without picking those higher on the lists for representation in the state assemblies.
Clause 35 (4) of the directive states that if any party fails to submit revised lists by ensuring representation as guided by the directive, no candidate will be elected from the party. (PR)
