Students demand poll results disclosure
Jan 2, 2018-
The student and youth organizations associated to CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC), demanding immediate disclosure of polls results of the Proportional Representation (PR) category of the federal and provincial parliamentary elections.
The organisations also called on the election governing body to submit its report along with the polls results. Representatives of the student organisations, ANNFSU, ANNISU (Revolutionary), and Youth Association Nepal submitted the memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav.
In the memorandum, the students have accused the ruling Nepali Congress of trying to divide the left alliance at the behest of foreign forces following poor election outcome for the party. They have urged the EC to publicise the poll results and stop the perpetuation of political instability.
EC chief Yadav said constitutional and legal complications were causing the delay in publicising the poll results. “The provision that the political parties should ensure 33 per cent women representation has caused the delay”, he added. CEC Yadav further said that the EC would submit the election report with the results to the President after completing all due processes.
