The locals of Dhankuta Bazaar, the district headquarters of Dhankuta, and Dipayal, the district headquarters of Doti, enforced transport strikes to press their demands on Wednesday.
In Dhankuta, the protesters vandalised four vehicles for defying the strike. Police arrested one Suman Katuwal for vandalising the vehicles.
A large number of security personnel were deployed in Dhankuta Bazaar.
Following the arrest of Katuwal, the protesters had become more agitated. They threatened to launch stronger protest if Katuwal is not freed unconditionally. The local administration said the protest organisers will be asked to pay compensations for the damaged vehicles.
Sundar Babu Shrestha, who is leading the protest committee, said they were forced to continue the protest because the government paid no heed towards their demand.
Similarly in Doti, the local people enforced vehicular strike in Dipayal from 7am to 5pm demanding to designate the regional headquarters as the provincial capital. The protesters torched a motorcycle for defying their strike and also vandalised regional office of Urban Development and Building Construction.
