Woman beaten on witchcraft charge
Jan 5, 2018-
A woman has been assaulted on witchcraft allegation at Betaha Khoriyatol in Siraha district.
The victim, Ritadevi Das, said she was attacked by a neighbouring woman Indradevi Das and her daughter, Nilam, on Saturday night, accusing her of using black magic to cause her own husband sick.
“My husband is bed-ridden due to diabetes for the last three years. I have been working as a daily wage labourer to support my husband and our three children. But my neighbours think that I am to blame for my husband’s condition because I am a witch,” said Ritadevi. The 36-year-old was admitted to Lahan Hospital after she suffered several injuries in the incident.
Ritadevi said it was the third time that she was attacked by Indradevi and her family members charging her of witchcraft.
Police has arrested Indradevi and Nilam for investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganesh Bahadur Chand said the suspects were held and being questioned after the victim filed a complaint at Lahan Area Police Office.
