APF, Army score facile wins

Army strolled to a 4-1 victory over Nepal Police Club (NPC) while APF gave high-flyers Far Western Region the reality check with a 9-0 rout. Army skipper Krishna Khatri and Anjali Waiba scored two goals each. Waiba gave Army the 20th minute lead scoring from a freekick but NPC captain Ghim Kumari Gurung levelled scores in the 36th minute, also through a freekick. Waiba restored the Army lead in the 57th minute. Skipper Khatri dashed NPC’s comeback home with a quickfire double. She made it 3-1 in the 70th minute before sealing the victory by added the another in the 75th minute.
Star forward Sabitra Bhandari netted a double hat-trick in APF’s rout of Far Western Region. Bhandari, who took her goal tally to 27 goals in four matches, scored in the 18th, 49th, 73rd, 76th, 84th and 90th minute with the last two coming from penalties. Anita Basnet struck in the 56th and 60th minutes to join in the goal feast before Rekha Poudel sealed the victory in the stoppage time.
The team that finishes top of the standings after the four-team Super League will be crowned the champions.
Archer Gauchan, Tamang win gold
KATHMANDU: Min Gauchan and Aisha Tamang claimed men’s and women’s gold in 70m individual recurve during the eighth National Archery Championships held at the National Sports Council premises on Sunday.
Gauchan of Thasang Sports Club beat Prem Prasad Pun 7-3 for claim the men’s gold. Tilak Pun Magar of Kaski Archery Club won bronze. Tamang beat fellow Army teammate Gyanu Awale 6-4 in women’s title clash. Tamanna Chhetri of Kanchanpur Archery Club claimed bronze.
The men’s 50m individual compound saw Sanatan Malla of Rajdhani Archery Club beat Prajit Agrawal of West Archery Club by 21 points, scoring 140 against 119 points. In the men’s standard 30m event, Dhanendra Chhantyal of Swayambu Archery Club secured gold with six points. Nabin Bir Basnyat collected four points in the best of five rounds to collect gold finishing ahead of Dambar Thapa of Tribhuvan Army Club. In women’s title clash of the same event, Keshari Ale Magar of Annapurna beat Mitra Rai 7-3. Rojina Thapa Magar finished third.
Army archers secured gold in men’s standard 30m team event. Army team comprising of Dambar Thapa, Tawin Gurung and Prem BK earned collected five points to finish ahead of West Club studded with Nabin Bir Basnyat, Jordan Bikram Thapa and Grishma Gurung, who earned one point. Annapurna finished third.
Parki, Budha claim 10,000m gold
KATHMANDU: Gopi Chandra Parki of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Bishwarupa Budha of Tribhuvan Army Club claimed gold medals in the 10,000m race during the 42nd National Athletics Championships held in Itahari on Sunday.
Parki clocked 32 minutes 20.8 seconds to claim the men’s gold. Armymen Gajendra Rai finished second and Tika Raj Katuwal third. In women’s event, Budha won the race in 37:29.59 to finish ahead of her clubmate Reshu Basnet and APF’s Bindradhanke Shrestha. Pramila Tharu (17.65) of Mid Western Region claimed women’s 100m hurdles gold. Tulasa Shrestha clinched silver and Tulasa Khatri bronze. Tila Khatri of APF secured women’s high jump gold while Surya Bahadur Khatri of Army took home gold in men’s category.
Table Tennis starts from Wednesday
KATHMANDU: The 39th National Table Tennis Tournament starts at the National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur on Wednesday. The tournament features seven events including men’s and women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles and men’s and women’s team event. All Nepal Table Tennis Association (ANTTA) also signed the sponsorship deal Call Mobility, the authorised distributor of Huawei Mobile in Nepal. Call Mobility will provide Rs 500,000 to ANTTA to conduct the tournament. The estimated cost of the tournament is Rs 2.3 million out of which National Sports Council will provide Rs 1 million while the ANTTA will manage the rest.
