Controversial businessman Ajeya Raj Sumargi has filed a defamation case at the Kathmandu District Court against Kantipur Publications stating that news reports carried by various outlets of the media firm on his financial dealings have defamed him.

Kantipur Publications  Chairman and Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swastika Sirohiya and Kantipur Daily Editor-in-Chief Sudheer Sharma have been named defendants in the case.

Sumargi has demanded Rs250 million in reparations.

Sumargi claimed in the complaint that the news reports that referred to his properties not having legitimate sources were baseless and that the publications had committed a crime by doing so.

He claimed the compensation amount arguing that the reports caused losses to his business, which he claimed were being operated with foreign investments.

The complaint filed through his Attorney Tulsi Bahadur Karki states that Sumargi’s investments are incontestable and that the reports defamed his image.
