Jan 9, 2018-
The Nepal Students Union has demanded the government instantly enforce the constitutional provision for health insurance facility for all regular students.
An NSU delegation led by its President Nain Singh Mahar on Monday called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba with a request to ensure free health insurance for regular students guaranteed by Article 35 of Part-III of the Constitution of Nepal.
Likewise, the delegation demanded allowance for unemployed youths as per Article 33 of the constitution and guarantee of technical higher education with at least one medical college, one engineering college and agriculture college in every province.
Establishment of e-library in all campuses, academic loan for students, establishment of two child development centres in every ward and better treatment for Meera Katuwal, the NSU central member who was injured in an IED explosion during the recent elections and compensation for her are among other demands of the NSU. In response, the PM said the demands related to health and education were genuine, pledging to discuss them with the concerned bodies, said NSU Joint General Secretary Prem Bahadur Jaisi.
The NSU has said it would hold various programmes, ranging from signature collection to sit-ins, if the government did not act on its demand.
