A total of 50,000 people are scheduled to recite the messages of Gautam Buddha en masse in Kathmandu next month to set a new Guinness World Records.
People from across the country would join the programme on February 10 in Kathmandu for the recitation of the Buddha’s messages to be held under the banner
of ‘Buddha was born in Nepal’, according to Dipak Sharma Bajgain, the
organiser of the event. The programme is being organised to publicise Nepal as the land of Buddhist philosophy and Buddha’s message across the world, he said. “The programme is being organized for nation and nationality and set the record in Nepal’s name by pronouncing the Buddha’s messages and ‘Dhhamapad’.”
India holds the current Guinness record for the largest recitation, with 46,660 people reciting the ‘Jan Pana’ of 16th century poet Poothanam.
At a programme organised in the Capital on Thursday, Minister for Information
and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet pledged Rs 51,000 to make the programme a success.
