Speaking at an interaction organised by the Reporters’ Club on Sunday, Sharma said, “The CWC meeting will review the electoral defeat and discuss ways to take the party forward strongly in the coming days.”
The spokesman said the meeting would also decide whether to convene the general assembly and a special party convention in the new situation. Sharma was appointed the Congress spokesperson on January 10.
Stressing the need for leadership transformation in the party, Sharma said time had come to breathe new life into the Nepali Congress. “We will start remaking the party. But the medicine for the party, in the given circumstances, would be ‘retirement’ of the leaders above 70 years,” he added.
The spokesman was of the view that a party is not driven by the age of a political leader but by their agendas. Meanwhile, Sharma clarified that the NC had not offered the prime minister’s post to anybody. Nor had it tempted someone to become the PM with an intention to break the left alliance.
“These are just rumours. It’s also our wish that the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) get united. My best wishes to them,” said Sharma, adding that the government would appoint provincial chiefs and their temporary capitals soon.
A new government would be formed after the National Assembly elections scheduled for February 7.
