Rawal, Karki, Tamang strike gold medals in taekwondo

The Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) player Rawal beat Sushma Gurung of Central Region in the final. In women’s U-73kg division final, Apsara Karki of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club defeated Sumitra KC of Nepal Police Club (NPC) while Sita Tamang of Police secured the below 67kg category title with victory over Reshma Thapa of Army.
Anoj Pujari of NPC struck the men’s above 87kg weight category title with victory over Mohammed Bes of TAC in final. Bhupan Pun of Central won the U-87kg division gold as he beat Durga Thapa of NPC in the title clash. James Pradhan of NPC bagged the U-80kg category gold with win over Ujjwal Guragain of TAC in the final.
Men’s U-16 age-group poomsae saw Nabin Shrestha of APF and Krishna Thapa of Army secure top two positions while Sishir Shrestha of TAC struck gold and Ujjwal Shrestha of Central Region silver medal in the U-20 age-group. Kamal Shrestha of NPC won gold and Sujan Tamang of Central struck silver in above 20-year age group category.
In the women’s poomsae, Monika Ramtel of NPC clinched gold and Sina Maden of the East took the U-20 age-group category title.
APF, Army secure team gold medals
APF won the men’s and Army the women’s team event gold medals in the National Badminton Championships in Mahendranagar on Thursday. APF beat Army 3-1 in men’s final. APF’s Dipesh Dhami beat Ratnajeet Tamang 21-19, 25-23 in singles match before Nabin Shrestha of Army saw off Sajan Krishna Tamrakar 21-15, 21-19. The third singles match saw Sudip Sedai of APF prevail over Praful Maharjan 21-17, 21-17 before men’s doubles pair of Dhami and Bijeet Thapa beat Tamang and Shrestha 22-20, 17-21, 25-23 to ensure the gold.
In the women’s team event, Army beat APF 2-0 as both Nangsal Devi Tamang and Amita Giri won their singles matches. Army duo Tamang and Amita Giri, and APF duo Gauchan and Shrestha made it to the women’s singles semi-finals.
Army, NPC set title clash
Army and NPC set the title in the National Men’s Football Tournament on in Dang Thursday. Both the teams came from a goal down to beat their opponents with identical 2-1 scorelines.
In Ghorahi, Eric Bista and Rajiv Gurung struck second half goals to beat Farwest, who had taken 19th minute lead through Maniram Chaudhary goal. Bista scored in the 69th and Gurung in the 71st minute. In Tulsipur, NPC beat APF, who had taken a 16th minute lead through Dipak Khadka strike. Santosh Hemran and Suman Lama scored for the Police team. The final is scheduled for Saturday in Ghorahi.
Army, Farwest enter final
Army and Farwest advanced to the men’s final of the National Hockey Tournament in Hetauda on Thursday. A brace from Pradip Rajbanshi guided Army to a 5-0 thumping of Western Region. Dipendra Airee, Sher Bahadur Rokaya and Kashiraj Rai were also on targets for the departmental team. The other semi-final saw Farwest defeated the East 3-2. Dhirendra Chand, Dipak Raj Joshi and Keshab Raj Joshi scored for Farwest while Sushil Soren and Manoj Chaudhary netted for the East. Army and the West recorded wins in women’s league. Army beat Central 1-0 and the West pip East 1-0.
