Dissatisfied by the government’s decision to make Dhangadhi of Kailali district the temporary capital of Province 7, people in Doti had been enforcing banda in the district for the last five days.
Narendra Khadka, coordinator of the protest committee, said that their struggle for capitalhood will not stop with the government’s decision to accord the title of temporary provincial capital to Dhangadhi.
The shutdown has been lifted to facilitate the upcoming elections for the Upper House, but the other forms of protests like sit-ins before government offices and rallies will continue in the coming days, said Khadka.
The protesters have also decided not to allow government offices in the district to resume their daily functions to exert pressure on the government and the political parties. They will also be giving continuity to their two-hour long sit-in protest followed by two hours of market shutdown.

The protesters burnt tyres on streets and chanted anti-government slogans throughout the day.
