Chief District Officer Prem Prakash Upreti said the district security committee meeting made the decision on Monday to ease life of the general public in the district. The eastern hill district had been under the prohibitory order since Thursday as the protest demanding capitalhood turned violent.
The DAO decided to lift the prohibitory order after the protesting local people called off the indefinite general strike on Monday. The Agitation Mobilisation Committee (AMC) decided to change the form of its protest considering difficulties faced by the public due to the indefinite banda in the area. The committee decided to launch an hour-long vehicular strike and relay hunger strike instead. “We will again enforce general strike if the government does not take any initiatives to address our demand within a week,” warned Sundar Babu Shrestha, the coordinator of the AMC.
Life in Dhankuta has gradually returned to normalcy following the withdrawal of the prohibitory order.
